Mary Smyth, PT, DPT

Mary earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Marist College. During her Doctoral program, Mary completed a research project comparing Vestibular/Oculomotor assessment tools in diagnosing Sports-Related Concussions. At Marist, Mary was a tutor for first and second-year cohorts in Movement Science, Clinical Neuroscience, and Physiology. Prior to receiving her DPT, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in health studies from Fairfield University. While at Fairfield, Mary played Division 1 lacrosse, winning 2 MAAC conference championships with her team. 

Throughout Mary’s clinical experiences, she worked primarily in outpatient orthopedic settings gaining a strong foundation in post-operative rehab, sports-related injuries, geriatrics, chronic pain, neurologic conditions, and several other diagnoses. Mary also completed a clinical rotation in the acute care setting, where she developed a better knowledge of cardiopulmonary conditions, burns, GI conditions, strokes, and TBIs. Mary spent her final clinical rotation in Florence, Italy where she had the opportunity to learn Italian and gain a better understanding of the differences in healthcare systems, cultural competence, and the importance of nonverbal communication in the field of Physical Therapy. 

Mary grew up in New Fairfield, Connecticut where she developed her love for sports and competing at a high level of athletics. Growing up, Mary played lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, soccer, and baseball. Mary has a strong interest in rehabilitating sports injuries, concussions, and vestibular conditions. In her free time, Mary enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, exercising, and cheering on her NY Giants!
