A quarter century of Spear

Celebrating 25 years

Our story

Every March 22nd we stop to celebrate our birthday—the day native New Yorkers Dan Rootenberg and Dave Endres treated their very first patient, a man named Vito. Since that day in 1999, we have treated every patient that walks through that door to a personalized physical therapy experience that is focused on results, just like we did for Vito.

That 2-person, NYC startup practice was called Sports Performance Enhancement and Rehabilitation (S.P.E.A.R.), and today, 25 years later, that practice has given growth opportunities to hundreds of therapists, donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in time and money to the NYC community, and has gotten over 300,000 New Yorkers moving again.

Testimonials

“The positive energy in this place is off the charts. My therapist is Michelle and she is amazing. It's a very fun and loving community. A big shout out to all the techs who do an amazing job helping you just as much as the therapists, Gaby, Nnam, Mary Ann, Terrell and Sherry! Lastly, the people at the front desk are very friendly and helpful, thank you Darien, Praise, Mark, and Fahmida! I highly recommend this place to get your physical therapy.”

"I came to spear at the new year with an old knee injury I never rehabbed. Since, I have never felt stronger! What I thought was just a new “normal” was proved wrong through countless (good) challenging and entertaining sessions with Melissa Brown. I can now run again with no pain! Everyone at spear are such friendly mornings and have made these early morning sessions more joyful. Thank you everyone!"

“I worked with Benjamin Schwartz for an injury from April - August of 2023, and couldn't speak more highly about him. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable and knew how to target my symptoms with various exercises to help rehabilitate my back. This has been a recurring injury over the past 8 years that I finally went to physical therapy for. I hope it does not occur again, but if it does, I would certainly be back to Spear at 44th Street to partner with him again! Thanks a lot, Ben!”
